It started with this sinful buka puasa outing on October 7th of 2007 when Ardy, Spena and I went to Raju’s for a binge and halal beer. Bakawali kept calling me up wondering how Ardy sounded or looked like. Then she asked me to take some photos of Ardy, which I did, but with a pre-agreement with both Spena and Ardy that his face wouldn’t be shown.
Then, on the 11th October, 2007, one day after I met Yummy Baby at Penjual Daging‘s gerai, came the moment of truth – Bakawali was to meet Ardy for the first time – and this was Spena’s biggest test: she was the one matchmaking them. Bakawali went raya shopping first with someone and then met Spena and I at the food court at Uptown. There were three couples and one Mamasan (Spena).
Then, on the second day of Hari Raya Puasa, when I was diving in Perhentian, Bakawali wrote about what she looks for in a man (which I think was her subtle (NOT!) way to describe Ardy). The spark had turn into a fire.
Ardy is all that that she wrote; and Bakawali is a friend who cares, albeit sometimes goes out of her way to make sure you are okay – but that is the kind of friend she is. She is a good laugh, caring, loud, funny, compassionate, sarcastic – all of that and all at once. Ardy is the guy who was once hurt badly, afraid but would always have this macho facade, but always afraid to fall in love again – until he and Bakawali clicked.
Tomorrow, they are getting married. A beginning of one of life’s long journeys, and the challenge to keep the flame burning commences. Being the only couple out of three during that berbuka puasa outing on 11th October that has made it, I know things will only get better for them.
Selamat pengantin baru, semoga berkekalan ke anak cucu. Have fun sharing your lives together.
Only one couple from this picture finally made it to the end – I, myself, have begun on a new journey with someone exceptionally wonderful 🙂
