To Nitrox or not to Nitrox

A dive magazine reported that they randomly selected divers and some were given Nitrox, and some were given normal compressed air to dive, without the divers knowing what they had to dive with. After the dive, almost every diver didn’t notice any difference in body tolerance, or feeling of less tiredness..etc, etc.

Tioman – COTS

COTS Project Tioman 17-18 Sept 2005

This time around the SeaDemon had the pleasure of diving with the cool couple Nazadel and DiverDel, as well as Leafbug, Simon, (not that) Stephanie, MikhQail, Kimi and of course, Faizal, Mrs Faizal and my twin, Buda. Two other divers who joined us were my daughters Farhanah and Syafiqa.

The first dive was at Chebeh Island..SeaDemon spent almost all his breatheable air chasing after a Green Turtle, as well as logging 35.3 meters maximum depth. If it weren’t for 40 bars left in his tank, he would have done another deco dive.

No COT was found here.

Surface interval this time was at Mangrove Bay on Tulai Island, literally next door to Long Beach, where the divers during last week’s dive did their surface interval.

Second dive was at Labas. Labas has lots of swim throughs. One huge COT was spotted here. While handling a COT, SeaDemon was separated from the main group and had to navigate his way back to the dive boat. En route, he encountered an Alpha Male Titan Triggerfish that was chasing two other equally big Titan Triggerfishes from his domain. Of course the SeaDemon had to remind this Alpha Male as to who actually owns this domain. The Alpha Male caught the drift and buggered off. 30 meters from the dive boat, the SeaDemon spotted a Clown Bananafish (Jester frittericus). The SeaDemon also demonstrated one of the dive styles he learnt at a Shaolin temple…the Monkey Swim, to Buda, who thought the SeaDemon IS actually crazy.

Third (night) dive was again at Labas since the COTS were spotted here. Here Faizal demonstrated that he can finger a pufferfish into shape. SeaDemon was more sober this time and showed Nazadel a huge COT and a Juvenile Scorpionfish (apart from humming the Soviet national anthem, hari raya tunes, as well as his favourite Hokkien Nursery Rhyme underwater). Hence, the SeaDemon commenced his safety stop with only 10 bars of air remaining. Come to think of it, he ended all his dives but one with only 10 bars left. Oh, thanks Dennis for lending me his torch so I’d dive with three torches.

Fourth dive was Soyak Wreck and Reef revisited. Surface was heavy with swells so the divers did not spend too much time topside. At this 30 meter max depth, the SeaDemon as usual will be at the deeper portion of this site, logging 32.1 meters until his PDC’s alarm blared as he approaches the end of his NDL. The divers did a group photo shoot at this wreck. Faizal demonstrated his tracking skills learnt from the Arapaho Indians of North America, while the SeaDemon showed the divers some Humpback Turtles. Oh, of course…that resident huge Moray Eel.

All in all, viz was excellent during all dives, better than during the previous week’s dive, and the SeaDemon’s going to start designing the concept for his very own resort in Tioman (plus the marina he has to pile into the seabed to host Leafbug’s fishing boat).

By far the most expensive one-day dive trip for the SeaDemon. He spent RM1937.00 in total. But nothing beats being underwater.

Tag Heuer

It’s German for Date Hour…

My friend likes this brand of watch.

Dennis now says that everyone wants to get a Personal Dive Computer…so many more can join me for deco dives.

Here at Chinoiz

I am here having lunch with Faizal and Dennis. I had Pita with Hummuz and French Onion Soup. Dennis and Faizal shared two pizzas.

And as usual, I’m logged on to some network somewhere…hehehehe. 12 hours to go before I depart for Mersing.

This cybercafe

Another half an hour to go before I go get the t-shirts and stickers. My daughters are waiting for me on the sofa in this cybercafe. And my good friend is still in the office. And Kimi must be sulking big time now.

Hehehehe.
