Race…Race…Race

170 kilometers per hour.

That was the fastest GPS speed clocked by my 14-year old (soon 15) Proton Saga Megavalve. I raced with a BMW on the Kuala Selangor to Sungai Buloh road on my way back from giving a political speech in conjunction with the Ijok by-election.

Yes, I know. It’s been three years since I got myself involved in mainstream politics. I have been asked to get involved since the news of the passing of Datuk K Sivalingam, the former state assemblyman for that area, but I declined all efforts to bring me back into the scene. However, at around 5.30pm yesterday, I got a call from someone close asking me to give a speech at 9.30pm. Initially, I declined. But he was adamant to have me. I tried another excuse saying I have not been registered as the candidate’s agent, and therefore I cannot campaign on his behalf. I was shocked to be told that my name was already on the list of guest speakers, all legally registered, and that they were sending a car to pick me up from home. I declined the car and told them I would drive on my own. Had I accepted the ride, I could still be in Ijok at this very moment.

Dive Buddy initially disliked the idea since I told her I do not like politics. But after hearing that I was badly needed, she wished me luck and asked me to drive safely.

So at 8.15pm, after making sure the kids had eaten their dinner, I drove my trusted Proton Saga through the Guthrie Highway towards Batu Arang (exit at Rawang). I did around 160km/h then. I had to pick up an old friend, Encik Mat Jaiz, from Batu Arang, to show me where I was supposed to deliver the speech. I arrived at Batu Arang at 8.50pm. By 9.15pm I passed the Sungai Rambai area, where another old friend, Tan Sri Md Isa Samad, the former Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan and former Minister for the Federal Territories, was delivering his speech. At Simpang 3 Batang Berjuntai, the police blocked the road towards Kuala Selangor as the Federal Reserve Unit was trying to disperse an illegal assembly organised by the Opposition. I was stuck there for about an hour before I was allowed to pass.

In the end I delivered the speech, BUT I allowed a dialog to take place. Some people thought that that was suicidal. Several questions were fielded but I managed to answer them smoothly. And to think I had put politics aside for the past three years and relatively out of touch.

Anyway, my Political Intelligence team quickly went into action when asked by “the people up there” for our latest assessment of the situation. I reported the figures ten minutes after collating the data.

At 11.32pm, I SMSed Dive Buddy that I was leaving the Ijok constituency. After passing the junction near Ijok town, a BMW started driving menacingly behind my car, giving its high beam and spotlights. I pulled my handbrake causing the BMW to take evasive action to avoid the tow ball on my rear bumper that would have cost him a new radiator. I changed down the gear to second, slammed on the accelerator and red-lined the engine before shifting into fourth, then fifth. The BMW gave chase but couldn’t keep up with me. It may have a good straight-line speed, but along the zig-zagging road, skill counts…especially if you’re doing 170km/h.

I arrived home, changed, washed my face, and SMSed Dive Buddy to inform her that I had reached home. The text was delivered exactly one hour after I had left Ijok.

One Year Ago

This time a year ago, Oneon, Walking Vibrator, Jai the Bhai and I were sitting in the Boardroom of the Nation’s Most Favoured Multinational company. By the end of the day, save for Jai the Bhai, plus another three persons parted ways with the company. I was there for 3 years and 4 months. Of the six, I am the only one who totally severed myself from the world of telecommunications.

It was a good experience. The trade shows and conferences in Geneva and Singapore, the quarrels with a telco, the 2-week deployment in Langkawi that really was 4 months, the straight face I kept while listening in to the discussions by our Thai counterparts, crazy Jakarta. A day earlier I had been diving in Tioman to deploy the DHL reef, the next day I was already jobless, but that did a lot of help: 5 days later I was on my way back to Tioman with my Dive Buddy, and the 20-year Question came into being.

There were great and bad moments working there as there were great and bad people in that company. The company had lots of ideas but making ideas reality is something of a challenge that has never been met. Many more have left since then: when I left the company had some 70 odd people; it now has less than 30. The attrition rate is more than half in the span of a year. I sold the last of my shares related to that company 2 months later when I was doing a deep dive off Tioman.

And how am I doing now? At times I earn more than twice my previous monthly salary, at times it’s at par. And it feels great earning money through something I have passion for.

To those vying for the title as Last Local Employee Standing, I wish you all the best.

I Have PMS

Today is the 19th of April, 2007. That would mean it was exactly 31 days ago I was enjoying the tranquility Pulau Perhentian could provide me. In four days time, it would have been over a month since my last dive. Hence my cranky mood right now.

Yes, it is my version of the female PMS; but instead of calling it Pre-Menstrual Syndrome, I term it as Pathetically Missing Scuba.

I am lucky to have made it this far, probably due to that trip in search of the 20-year answer. During that brief but meaningful period, I had gained some form of sanity. I found brief but meaningful joy, although the question now remains: “What now?”

I am still awaiting some payment that I will use to purchase some diving equipment, and should complete my working paper for some funding soon.

There is also that plan for the resort that my dive buddy and I are planning to run; hopefully that will fall into place soon.

I have to keep myself busy. I’m rottingbadly here. Spazm has asked if he should start digging now for me. I told him to run a stake through my heart while at it.

I need my sanity.

Help!

Ijok Polls

So, it will be a straight fight between Barisan Nasional and Parti Keadilan Rakyat. The former is fielding outsider K. Parthiban, while the latter is fielding Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, a heavyweight, for the task.

I won’t go into details of the history of the Ijok constituency, but I’ll write here my assessment of the whole thing.

There are 12,272 voters in Ijok. 6263 malays, 3456 indians and 2553 chinese. The winner will have a majority of 1,132.

I won’t say which way.

The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel

21 Sept 1952 - 1 July 1976

I watched the re-run of “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”, a movie based on a book of the same name, that was in turn based upon true events in Bavaria, Germany in 1976. The actual character in this exorcism was Anneliese Michel (picture above), a devout Catholic of strict Catholic upbringing, who was possessed by several demons namely Lucifer, Judas Iscariot, Nero, Cain, Hitler, and Fleischmann (a disgraced Frankish Priest from the 16th century). She was first possessed in 1968 when she was just 17. In 1969 she was sent to the Wurzburg Psychiatric Clinic and was diagnosed as having Grand Mal Epilepsy. In 1975, sensing nothing medically wrong with their daughter, her parents turned to exorcisms to heal her.

Arnold Renz and Ernst Alt

For 10 months Father Arnold Renz and Pastor Ernst Alt (shown above) performed rituals according to the Rituale Romanum on Anneliese. 67 rites performed altogether. In the end, as in the movie, she refused to eat and died of malnourishment and severe dehydration. She also suffered from high fever and Pneumonia. She weighed only 30kgs.

I’ve seen some weird stuff, all the way back to when I was 4 years old at least. However, my first time seeing anyone being possessed was back in 1990 when I was doing my Advanced Parachuting Course at the airport in Ipoh. An Air Force female recruit named Rafidah was possessed, and 16 others were down with hysteria. When I was then transfered to the base in Ipoh, and was put in charge of the female recruits, a recruit of mine named Siti Kamisah was possessed. No mass hysteria was recorded with this one, but she was violent. She single-handedly threw six of the male instructors who tried to restrain her, all at the same time. She could also leap over four double-decker bunks and ran through the door of the accommodation block when the door was shut and locked..without altering the state of the door! Cool! She should have been in the Special forces or Intelligence corps. She was in that state on and off for about 4 months before whatever that was inside her could be cast away.

Back to Anneliese, below are several photos taken of her during the exorcism. The link at the end of this posting is of her double-voiced mentioning the names of the demons inside her. This is an excerpt from the numerous recordings made during her exorcism.

Do you believe in the supernatural? Do they exist? The possibility is always there.
