Lahad Datu: Why Pakatan Rakyat Does Not Deserve To Be Briefed

Today, Lim Kit Siang of the Democratic Action Party, a member of the loose coalition calling themselves the Pakatan Rakyat, has called upon the Prime Minister to brief the Pakatan Rakyat lawbreakers lawmakers on the operational updates of Ops Daulat that is being conducted by the PDRM and the Armed Forces.

However, apart from being total idiots, the Pakatan Rakyat side cannot be trusted with national secrets. And my friend, OnDaStreet, whom sides neither he Pakatan Rakyat nor the Barisan Nasional, has explained why beautifully.

Xenophonbia Justified

Within the hour of writing this posting, the Australian Foreign Minister, Bob Carr, will be issuing a statement on the denial of entry of Independent Senator Nicholas Xenophon into Malaysia.  According to some friends in Australia, “they have made it into such a big thing over here.”

Perhaps, news agencies in Australia, in particular Sky News Australia, should stop being superficial as their superficial reporting shows their inability to engage in journalistic rigor, comprehend complexity or maintain impartiality.  Else their journos could come and join me write for this blog pro bono perhaps in the classifieds section.  Well, I have no classifieds section.

Now, please understand the following:

nickxenophon

Xenophon is being denied entry for being a “security threat” to Malaysia.  Let us not forget that Xenophon, as an Australian diplomat, broke local law for being directly involved in the BERSIH 3.0 demonstration.  The Malaysian Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 specifically mentions in Section 4(2)(a) that a person commits an offence if being a non-citizen, he organizes or participates in an assembly and should be liable to a fine not exceeding ten thousand Ringgit.  Of course, being Malaysian and hospitable even to foreign lawbreakers, he was allowed to go home without receiving much hassle, let alone a 10 sen fine.

Isn’t Xenophon then a diplomat, and are diplomats not immune from prosecution?

Firstly, Article 41 para 1 of the Geneva Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961 clearly states that it is the duty of all persons enjoying the privileges and immunities to respect the laws and regulations of the receiving State and have a duty not to interfere in the internal affairs of that State.  Xenophon went against that by getting involved in the BERSIH 3.0 rally.

Xenophon has always maintained that his interest in free and fair elections in Malaysia started with the prosecution and subsequent acquittal of Anwar Ibrahim of the sodomy charge in Sodomy 2.0 (yes, we Malaysians have a release number for everything).  It does not mean that he did not do it.  As in Sodomy 1.0, Anwar was acquitted due to technical reasons and not because he did not participate in acts of sodomy.  Read the last four paragraphs of this report.

Perhaps, Sky News Australia should ask itself if there is no thriving democracy in Malaysia, how is it that demonstrations are allowed, and if elections aren’t free and fair, how was it possible that Anwar’s loose coalition won five of Malaysia’s states including two of Malaysia’s cash cow states (Penang and Selangor)?

Judging from Foreign Minister Bob Carr’s statement on the issue as well as reports by other Australian news agencies, Australia values its good relation with Malaysia, but it is the minority and people who get little backing from the Australian government such as Nick Xenophon, and Foxtel-owned Sky News Australia that continue to believe in the lies dished out by Anwar Ibrahim.  I hope they make time to interview all the founding members of Anwar’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat where even Anwar’s membership is a suspect.  All his comrades who joined him in 1998 have left save for his wife, daughter and his trusted lieutenant whose wife is reported to have had an affair with Anwar when the latter was still a Federal Minister.  And Xenophon’s constant meddling in the affairs of another State not only contravenes the Geneva Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961, but also displays his standard of being a diplomat against that of seasoned diplomats who would shy away from giving comments about their host State knowing the line that has been drawn by Article 41 of that Convention.

As such, Malaysia has the right to declare Nick Xenophon a persona non grata under Article 9 of the same Convention, and list him as an undesired person.  Australia as the sending State has no choice but to recall the person.  We, including Australian journalists, must remember that Article 9 of the Convention allows Malaysia to even declare Xenophon a non grata without explanation, and even before he arrives in Malaysian territory.

You have your laws, we have ours.  if you want others to respect your laws, learn to respect the laws of others.  You did not respect ours, Xenophon, now off you go.

The Huguan Siou Denies

And here comes the denial:

20130213-004103.jpg

Anwar Ibrahim has denied that he was installed as the Huguan Siou (Paramount Leader) during a visit to Ranau, Sabah, and Lim Kit Siang has called the former up to confirm that such an event never took place.

But what do we all make out of this?

20130213-004412.jpg

As pointed out in my previous posting, this was posted by Jonathan Yasin, Deputy PKR Chief of Sabah a few days ago. Now, let us see the pictures below:

20130213-004542.jpg

20130213-004624.jpg

The above pictures posted on the Internet have effectively proven that both Anwar, and Lim Kit Siang, are trying to hoodwink the Sabahans for their support in the forthcoming general elections. In short, they have lied about the event.

And I can bet you, that’s not the missing Omega watch on his wrist.

Probably Anwar is going through his usual looks like me, but it’s not me routine. Nevertheless, this event has not gone down well with most Sabahans. The title of Huguan Siou is not something that is easily given out, and never to anyone outside the Kadazan-Dusun-Murut (KDM) community.

For those from the Peninsula who may not understand the significance, some may describe Anwar being bestowed the title akin to Justin Bieber being made a Knight of the Realm. But in actual fact, it is more like replacing the retiring Pope with Nik Aziz, a Muslim. Anwar may have denied the event took place, but Jonathan Yasin has not issued any denial. In fact, he was reported to have blamed it on an ex-tribal chief whom had performed the ceremony – the blame game commences.

There is no question that the event did take place, and it is perhaps the ultimate insult by a Peninsula-based party in its attempt to subjugate the people of Sabah.

And no other way best to depict the gravity of this issue than a cartoon that was posted on Twitter:

20130213-005601.jpg

Ini kali kah? Choose wisely, Sabahans!

Congratulations To The Kadazans, Dusuns and Muruts

This is probably the Chinese New Year gift from Pakatan Rakyat to the people of Sabah; especially the Kadazans, Dusuns and Muruts. According to Jonathan Yasin of PKR Sabah, PKR Supremo, Anwar Ibrahim is the new Huguan Siou (Paramount Leader) as of 10th February 2013. This appointment, according to Jonathan’s Facebook, took place at Kampung Paginatan in Ranau district.

20130211-014227.jpg

So, where does Pakatan Rakyat or PKR plan to throw Joseph Pairin Kitingan, the incumbent Huguan Siou? Does PKR now want to replace the Kadazandusun Cultural Association by usurping the latter’s power and appoint a Huguan Siou who is not from the KDM community?

Let us have a look at the bigger picture:

20130211-014908.jpg

I guess this is how Pakatan Rakyat treat the people of Sabah. Whatever goes as long as Pakatan Rakyat forms a government, gains power, and Anwar achieves his life-long ambition of becoming the Prime Minister of Malaysia. I won’t be surprised Sarawak would receive the same treatment. Who cares about local sensitivities or what the locals want?

Oh, wait! If you look at the second picture, the caption also says that Anwar has been appointed the Huguan Siou of MALAYSIA! That, in effect, replaces His Majesty Yang DiPertuan Agong (Paramount Ruler of Malaysia).

Little wonder Pakatan Rakyat is so confident of taking over Putrajaya and calling it their year, come what may. After all, IT IS the Year of the SNAKE.

The Kuantan Criminal

Back in the early 20th Century, we had a menace by the name of Loi Tack (also spelt as Loi Teck). Come the 21st Century, we have Wong Tack. The times may differ but both were and are advocates of criminal force.

Rocky Bru picked up an article of Wong Tack’s criminal threat in a recent Guang Ming Daily’s Sunday Night Edition. Wong Tack was reported to have uttered the following in the event that the Lynas Rare Earth Plant is not closed after the next general election:

“I will personally burn down the rare earth plant!”

If this is not criminal intimidation as stipulated in Section 503 of the Malaysian Penal Code, then I do not know what is.

Such a huge sentence for someone so small. I doubt Wong Tack would utter such threat if he knows he does not have the backing. He has personally stated that his Himpunan Hijau group would support Anwar Ibrahim in the upcoming general election because “…Anwar Ibrahim has promised the rakyat that when they come into power, the rare earth plant and Bukit Koman cyanide gold mine project will be closed.”

Wong Tack reminded that Himpunan Hijau had gotten as far as the Lynas plant’s gates on 31st December 2012, therefore the next step would be “to gate-crash and burn the plant.” Although Himpunan Hijau does not plan for anymore demonstration, Wong Tack stressed tat the group would be helping the Pakatan Rakyat to topple the Barisan Nasional government.

It does not take an engineer to know that when you destroy a plant, you are more likely also to damage or destroy the controls that are already in place to protect the surrounding community as well as environment. To this, Wong Tack said:

“…the action of burning down the plant will not harm anyone because the objective is to stop the rare earth plant from causing harm on people’s health and life.”

When a UN body had reported that Lynas meets all prerequisites to commence safe operations, you get this whiner going around telling people that it is not safe. I hope he knows that half of the daily radiation dosage he receives is from his own home. In fact, after the Three-Mile Island nuclear accident, radioactive iodine was detected at 20 picocuries per liter.

And what is that in layman terms? 355 mL of the slightly radioactive milk above would give you only 1/75 BED….or BANANA EQUIVALENT DOSE. Yes, bananas are more radioactive.

So, for Wong Tack to create unnecessary public alarm and for him to make criminal intimidation shows the desperate nature of politics in Kuantan. Perhaps, someone who backs him up is asking him to do all this. Or even perhaps Wong Tack sees this as a personal economic raison d’être. By any way and means, his logic of burning down the plant yet not harm the surrounding community and environment is childish, but very malicious.

I hope, by his logic, he burns his house down with his children inside to kill the mosquitoes that bug him in his sleep.

Otherwise, please someone, just lock this imbecile up.

Sieg Heil!

Oh, My Goat!

“UMNO can offer projects but if you support PAS, you support Islam and the reward is a place in heaven.”

That was what the State Assemblyman for Ga’al from the Pan-Malaysia Islamic Party (PAS), Dr Nik Mazian Mohamed was quoted to have said aday or two ago, as pointed out by a journo on The Star on 27th January 2013. He also added:

“And if we (PAS) win, we are offering people 20% oil royalties.”

Such is the mandate that God has given PAS that they could offer not only God’s heaven, but also twenty percent oil royalties. Talk about the wonders of having God on your side, and power to deliver riches.

However you believe it or not, there are people gullible enough to think that PAS, a party that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had never join, can offer such things. To the simple mind, if you carry the name “Islam” on your party’s official name, then that has to be an Islamic thing therefore should be supported without question. Even if the person making the religious decree has had a case of being found in a hotel room with another man’s wife!

The words uttered by these people are, to these simple minds, inscribed in stone. If you were to question them, you would go straight to hell! Or worse still, be brand an UMNO-lackey, which to PAS, is worse than being “Hudud-over-my-dead-body” Karpal Singh, a DAP supremo. No matter how ridiculously illogical (redundancy intended) the words maybe, or how unIslamic the nature, is as if God had spoken through these ragheads and there is no other manner but to obey.

How can mere mortals promise you paradise, or hell’s wrath? Twenty percent oil royalty…a big maybe. But of course they would have to kowtow to the very people who are known to be involved in the attempts to proselytise Muslims in Malaysia, and are so dead against Malaysia being known as an Islamic country, let alone enforce the sharia law!

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself was quoted to have said:

By Allah, though I am the Apostle of Allah, yet I do not know what Allah will do to me.” Sahih Bukhari Volume 5, Book 58, Number 266

And this supports Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala mentioned in the Quran:

“Say, [O, Muhammad], “I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allah or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel. I only follow what is revealed to me.” Say, “Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Then will you not give thought?”- al-An’am 6:50

Of course, being Malays, a shortcut to God is far better than understanding the content of the Quran. Why bother when you have bearded ragheads to do all the thinking for you? This is the reason myopic Malays who believe in dogmas when Islam is free of it fail to know the warning God has given them:

“Some of them even twist their tongues to simulate the scripture, to make you think that it is from the scripture when it is not from the scripture, and claim it is from God, when it is not from God. They invent lies and Tribute them to God, knowingly.” – Ali Imraan 3:78

Which brings me to another supposed God-fearing politician, albeit without the beard and rag. This one is a woman, married to a Ram. Hannah, as the name is given, is a Hebrew word that means “Gracious” but is far from that.

When a well-known journo asked on Twitter on the 27th January 2013 if he should give a vote to the Opposition in the state of Selangor (Barisan Nasional), my wife replied a resounding “Yes.” When asked from the former her reason for saying so, well, the screen capture below says it all:

20130128-185127.jpg

As you can see in the thread, a handle called NEO V.H (@nonvitaltooth) posted a screen capture of Hannah’s very swift response to my wife’s post which I have in turn screen-captured:

20130128-185435.jpg

So, Hannah has accused my wife of lying. Well, here is a screen capture of the said Residents Association letter:

20130128-185611.jpg

Please read paragraph 4 in the above image and let us see who has been lying to her constituents, shall we?

Perhaps, God-fearing Hannah Yeoh has problems reading the Bible as PAS-supporting Malays have with the Quran.

Perhaps, I could refresh this God-fearing state assemblyman for my constituency that “Satan is the father of lies” (John 8:44); that God hates a lying tongue (Proverbs 6:17); and that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8).

Had Hannah Yeoh took time to listen and seek the truth instead of being a swift-tongue and lying to her voters, I would be very GRACIOUS towards her. No, the name Hannah does not go well with me, thank you.

But of course, the Bible has something for those who are swift-tongued too! Proverbs 18:13 clearly said:

“He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.”

And of course, John 1:19 has warned us to be swift to hear, and slow to speak.

I guess Hannah and the ragheaded goats do not fear God at all!

Oh, my Goat!

The Thumped Motherfuckers

From a layman’s view, it all started with the delegates at the DAP CEC election rejecting ALL the Malay candidates, including one veteran Malay who has been trying to get a seat for the past quarter of a century, and a Chinese disguised as a Malay nominated to hoodwink especially, the DAP Malays.

Perhaps, all the nation’s Malays lambasted the DAP for claiming itself to be a multiracial party when the composition of its CEC does not reflect the Malaysian demography. Pulling the scupper off instead of plugging the hole, DAP fumbled again with the CEC election results by blaming Microsoft Excel for miscalculations and put the Chinese disguised as a Malay as the 20th spot winner of the CEC election.

Another miscalculated move, and this time without an Excel sheet to blame. Quickly Lim Guan Eng threw a red herring that hungry vultures quickly grabbed – the issue of using Allah to represent God in Bibles. This time, he went too far.

While the Malays from UMNO and PAS quarrelled over the Allah issue, DAP-friendly netizens quickly went on the roll to convince the Malay voters that Zairil Khir Johari is indeed a Malay. One even sent Blackberry messages to convince, Madam Logeswary, the wife of MIC Youth Chief, T Mohan, that Zairil was born in Malaysia as a Malay, and that “he’s known Zairil since they were kids.”

Before I go on commenting on the Allah issue, let me settle this Zairil issue for the dumb Malays first.

This is Zairil Khir Johari….not Zairil bin Khir Johari, just plain Zairil Khir Johari, whose mother married the late Khir Johari in February 1996. And if Christine Lim had shat Zairil nine months after that, Zairil would be 16 years and 2 months old now. But he isn’t.

20130119-164122.jpg

And no, Zairil was not born as Zairil. He was born in Hawaii, USA, and his real name is CHRISTOPHER! CHRISTOPHER ROSS LIM whose BIOLOGICAL FATHER is HOWARD LIM!

20130119-164353.jpg

But of course, if it isn’t DAP hoodwinking the public, then what is DAP’s raison d’être?

Okay, you have the Malays fighting each other on the Allah in the Bible issue. It was raised by Lim Guan Eng, UMNO went ballistics, and PAS supporters were quick to blame UMNO for bringing up the issue. Dementia? Or plain senile?

Only one person from PAS, the MP for Parit Buntar, made a personal comment on the issue enquiring Lim Guan Eng’s motive for bringing the issue up. Kudos to the only one with balls in PAS. Of course, DAP gave PAS an ultimatum to toe the line which PAS, seemingly now being the subjugated meek within Pakatan Rakyat, gladly did.

Then, to show that it has some power, and not just some whipping boy in the PR understanding (it isn’t a coalition), the PAS-led Kedah State government pulled a fast one by announcing a ban on female performers for the forthcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, and guess what? Patrick Teoh went berserk calling it a ruling made by “Quran-thumping motherfuckers.”

Maybe old Patrick Teoh needs to read more history before he becomes one. Sir Stamford Raffles, a hardcore Evangelist, in a letter to his cousin in 1815 mentioned how “Religion and laws are so united” in Muslim dominated areas that the introduction of Christian beliefs will bring about “much mischief, much bitterness of heart and contention”.

Again, you see UMNO supporters going to town with this, while the real motherfuckers (this is now an accepted journalistic term, isn’t it?) tucked their tail in between their hind legs, whimpered and scampered away. At the command of the real masters of that side of the rakyat’s fence, the Kedah State government retracted the ban. I stand corrected on this. I am just a layman.

Not even a week later, the PAS spiritual body that governs the party’s policies, the Majlis Syura PAS, issued a statement saying that non-Muslims cannot use the name Allah. Enter DAP, through the gradually-taming Lion of Jelutong, calling on PAS’s President, Abdul Hadi Awang, to ensure that the Majlis Syura PAS toes the Pakatan Rakyat line, while Azmin Ali of Parti Keadilan Rakyat was quick to say that the Majlis Syura PAS is not part of the Pakatan Rakyat.

And now, we have people in Penang distributing the Malay Bible to Malay schoolchildren in contrary to claims by the Christian quarter that the Bibles are not meant for distribution to the Malays. Read more about it here.

Isn’t it obvious that the all-corrupted UMNO is consistently defending Islam while PAS continues to behave like the thumped motherfuckers?

Think, people. Think.

Disclaimer: all profanities are printed for effect.

The Case for God – Part 3

In the previous installment I discussed the concept of Trinity to explain how it undermines the divinity of God according to Christianity, thus making the application of the name Allah for a such God an overkill and not appropriate for the actual meaning of Allah.

As mentioned in the previous installment, too, I find the argument that Allah is the common denominator for God in this region a joke. The common denominator in the Indo-Malay speaking world would be Tuhan instead of Allah. However, Allah is the term that is inside the Quran for as long as time can remember. I cannot say the same for the Bible as it no longer reflects the Old Testament. Anyhow, you cannot find the name Allah inside the Old Testament. Just a Hebrew name that does not even resemble both the Arabic and Roman spelling of Allah. Even so, Elohim as called by the Jews, refers to The God that has no Son, nor an equivalent called the Holy Spirit. Mind you, even the Jews are totally against the concept of deifying a human being. I am sure my wife’s Iban relatives who are Christian would understand the term “Tuhan” without any problem since Bahasa Malaysia is derived from the Malay language, and the term for God in Malay is Tuhan.

We have seen the subtle tactics of missionaries of those days in the first installment and how their modus operandi is now refined by present-day missionaries. This blogger had had the opportunity to meet up with Muslims proselytized during the month of Ramadhan of 2012 and was told of the very fine and subtle methods used to proselytize Muslims in Malaysia. Back in the late 19th and early 20th century, the Malay people were not only bombarded with the Malay Bible, but also Christian publications in Malay such as Buletin Ariffin, Cermin Mata, Sahabat and Warta Melayu. Little has changed, but made only better. Recently, Johor’s Department of Islamic Affairs, together with the Home Ministry, confiscated 250 Christian literature in the Malay language. Imagine these books having titles such as Kaabah, Mengenal Rasul and Wahyu Illahi. With the state of Johor having around 58 percent Muslims, 2 percent Christians, and 40 percent other religions, who were these Malay literature targeting? Ibans? Christians? Chinese? Read more about the attempt to proselytize Muslims in BigDog’s post.

So, what about the use of Allah by Christians in Indonesia, Egypt etc.?

Tell me how good has that been for Indonesia and Egypt? How well do the Muslims and Christians get along in those countries? The very reason we do not have beheading of Christians in Kelantan or lynching of Muslims in Sarawak is because we do not step on each others toes.

But I guess, for the purpose of gaining support and diverting the attention of voters from issues currently plaguing the DAP so close tot the next general elections, Lim Guan Eng raised the “use of Allah in Bible” issue again. And the Muslims in the Pakatan Rakyat chose to keep quiet about it except for the MP for Parit Buntar, Mujahid Yusof Rawa who questioned Guan Eng’s motive. I suppose for most PR Muslims, it is okay for Muslims to be proselytize as long as they get to wrestle power from the present government. To cloud the vision of their supporters from their internal issues of corruption, cronyism and nepotism, they decided to rally the support of the mostly Chinese Christians by raising the Allah issue again, knowing very well it would somehow hurt the relationship between UMNO and the Christians within the Barisan Nasional. I hope no fool would fall for this treachery.

What is the purpose of using the name Allah in Bibles, having a Malay Bible, and Christian publications in Malay if not to proselytize the Muslims? With all due respect to my Christian friends, why hasn’t the Vatican been using Allah or Elohim? Why do they stick to the name they know? And what is the most familiar term for God here in Malaysia if not Tuhan?

Like I mentioned in the first instalment. I am called John, and wherever I go, I will still be called John. No one in Germany would call me Johann, no Arab would call me Yahya, no one in Sweden would call me Jan or Jon. So, if your common denominator is Tuhan, call as it is. Not adopt from some other language. Or else, I would question why aren’t you calling God “Deus.” Please don’t fall for the politics of hate propagated by those who are irresponsible.

We have been living together, respecting each other for more than five decades peacefully except for one dark moment in 1969. Let us not let the political ambition of some to destroy the peace and prosperity that we have maintained for so long.

May I remind the Christians, in particular the Catholics about what is mentioned in the Catholic Encyclopedia about Allah:

Let it be noted that although Allah is an Arabic term, it is used by all Moslems, whatever be their language, as the name of God

If you still cannot see that, then there will soon be trouble in this peaceful nation. So, who is not respecting who?

The Case for God

I am called John.

John F SeaDemon.

I may be called Yahya or Yahya Shaitan al-Bahri  if I were in an Arab country somewhere, but I doubt John F Kennedy would have been called Yahya F Kennedy had he gone to Saudi Arabia or even Egypt.  In fact, he would still be called Jack…or John.  But for some Christians in Malaysia, especially in the Peninsula Malaysia, God is called Allah. Maybe it is time for me to address the Logos behind the Theos in this theological subject.

The Language behind Allah

There has been many attempts at explaining the origin of the name Allah, and the similarity the name has to the Jewish word, Elohim (Elochim).  Allah is derived from two distinct Arabic words: Al (The), and Ilah (God), to describe the Supreme Being, the One God, and the word Allah, in Arabic takes a masculine form.

The Hebrew equivalent would be Eloah.  However, Eloah is the female word for God.  In order for the name to have a masculine form, the name Eloah is given a plural form, -im, making it masculine.

However, the Catholic Encyclopedia does not recognise Elohim as the Hebrew word for the God of Israel, but says that it could have been referred to an earlier polytheistic culture’s deity.

In Arabic, a female form of Allah would be Al-Lat.  Interestingly, Al-Lat during pre-Islamic times refers to one of three goddesses (female) whose shrine and temple was built in the city of Taif in Saudi Arabia.  She was a daughter of the Supreme God, Allah, along with her sisters Manat and al-Uzza.  Here you can see that even polytheistic pre-Islamic Arabs had a Supreme God called Allah.  Hence, if you ask me, an equivalent of Al-Lat in Hebrew would be Eloah, and not The One Supreme God. You can clearly see the difference between Elohim and Allah. While the former had to undergo a gender transformation, the Arabic word Allah is free of grammatical structure and corrupted meanings.

Of course, Christians in Malaysia argue that Allah is a common denominator for God for both Arab Christians and Muslims.  We’ll come back to that in a while.

The Local History behind Allah

Let us remember one thing.  Malaya (Peninsula Malaysia) was never colonised as a whole by the British, save for Penang, Malacca, and Singapore, while Sabah and Sarawak came under direct British colonial rule. Penang was acquired through a deal to lease the island made between the British East India Company and the Sultan of Kedah; Malacca was acquired from the Dutch through the Treaty of Bencoolen; and Singapore was included in the Treaty of Bencoolen by making the severely weakened Dutch to not object to the British occupation of Singapore.  The people of these three places, together with Sabah and Sarawak, became British subjects.

Through treaties with the Sultans on the Peninsula, the British helped administer the State of the respective Sultans, while the Sultans remained as the supreme head of these sovereign states.  The administration of Islam came under the purview of the respective Sultans as the protectors of the state’s religion.

So, why does Indonesia have Bibles that use the word Allah to describe God?

Unlike Malaya, Indonesia was a nation of conquered people.  Hello! Remember the Dutch?  When Douglas MacArthur met Emperor Hirohito, he purposely stood next to the Emperor to show the Japanese people that the Emperor was not a demi-God.  Victors get to do as they please, and this is probably the same case as the Ladang Rakyat issue in Kelantan.  The Dutch conquered parts of Indonesia beginning in 1595, and as part of its attempt to call the Malay diaspora in Indonesia to Christianity, the Book of Matthew was translated into the Indonesian language in 1629; and where the Dutch set foot, other religions were formally prohibited although Chinese temples as well as mosques remained in existence.

Missionaries, too, made headway in Sabah and Sarawak, converting the populace to Christianity.  Sir Stamford Raffles recommended to Rev. Thomas Raffles (Buitenzorg, 10th February 1815, Mss. Eur. F.202/6) that Borneo be given vigorous campaigns by the missionaries as “the island is inhabited by a race scarcely emerged from Barbarism.”

This does not mean that the Malays were free from attempts to proselytize them.  In fact, Raffles, in a letter to his cousin in 1815 mentioned how “Religion and laws are so united” in Muslim dominated areas that the introduction of Christian beliefs will bring about “much mischief, much bitterness of heart and contention”.

Raffles contended that Christianity must be packaged in a new form and be conveyed to the Muslim majority through a gradual approach. The “pagans”, on the other hand, required no stratagems.  His methods include the establishment of missionary schools where the Malays are taught to read and write in their own language.  Then he set up printers to publish books in Malay.  Missionaries were largely responsible for this effort with the help of local agents, and the most famous of these agents was a chap called Abdullah Abdul Kadir who is better known as Munshi (Teacher) Abdullah.  He and other Munshis taught Christian missionaries the Malay language.  His role went beyond that and became the first Muslim in South East Asia to translate the Bible into the Malay language, that he became the target of his contemporaries who called him Abdullah Paderi (Pastor Abdullah) among other things.

It is interesting to note, however, that Raffles never once attempted to convert Malays in the Federated and Unfederated Malay States where the Sultans rule and guard the interest of the religion of Islam.  This is because it would be foolhardy to anger the Sultans whom the British had a treaty with, by undermining the sanctity of Islam by converting their subjects.  In the case of Raffles, he only focused his efforts on those who are British subjects.

Here we see the subtle tactics of the Christian missionaries during Raffles’s times, and the Malay lackeys who colluded with them.  We can see the similarities in events of nowadays.  But the above is also why we have Allah in the Bibles of Indonesia and Sabah and Sarawak, but not in Peninsula Malaysia.

In the next installment I will discuss on how the concept of Trinity came about and why it was opposed by some Christians, and about Allah as the common denominator for God in the Arab-speaking world.

Downwards Accelerating Party

The Democratic Action Party voted its Central Executive Committee today.  Prior to that, campaigning saw the various camps begging for grassroot support; for some, political survival depended much on being elected to the CEC.  For the Malays in the DAP, there was hope that with its recent seemingly multiracial stand, the DAP would stand a better chance at having more support from the Malay voters, and hopefully having Malays elected into the CEC by the delegates would allow DAP to demand for more election seats, even to be able to contest in Malay strongholds.

Previously, the DAP’s CEC had 31 members.  Of these 31, three were Indians, while the Sikhs and the Malays were represented by two people each.  Today, 2,576 delegates voted.  Father and son, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, mustered 1,607  and 1,576 votes respectively, underscoring the fact that the DAP really is a “Daddy-Anak Party” (Father and Son Party).  Party strongman, Karpal Singh came in third with 1,411 votes.

Anthony Loke and Vincent Wu were tied with 1,202 votes each.  Tan Kok Wai is in sixth place with 1,199 votes.  Karpal’s son, the other Daddy-Anak Party defining team, was in seventh place with 1,197 votes.  Despite all the exposures and mileage received, Tony Pua only managed 1,162 votes putting him in the eighth place, while Selangor DAP’s Teng Chang Khim, manager to get 1,152 votes putting him in the ninth place.  At the bottom of the top ten list is Fong Kui Lun who received 1,137 votes.

The one who is linked to a recipient of a State Government contract when Pakatan Rakyat came into power in Perak, Nga Kor Ming, received 1,075 votes putting him in the 11th place.  Chong Chieng Jen and Chong Eng both received 1,011 and 1,006 votes respectively, putting them in the 12th and 13th places.  Chieng Jen remains the only representative from the Sabah/Sarawak side. Chow Kon Yeow received 985 votes and the 14th place.

M Kulasegaran, the man who received the highest vote in DAP Perak but never got the Perak DAP Chairman post because it was given to Nga Kor Ming, was tied with Liew Chin Tong with 984 votes.

A person who was reported to have had a fall out with Lim Guan Eng, Johor’s Dr Boo Cheng Hau, is in 17th place with 958 votes.  Selangor DAP Chairman Teresa Kok is in the 18th place with 925 votes while Teo Nie Ching is in the 19th place with 903 votes.

Nga Kor Ming’s cousin, Ngeh Koo Ham rounded up the top 20 with 824 votes.

Hiew King Chiew, DAP’s Member of Parliament for Kota Kinabalu, did not make it, signaling the possibility that he is out of favour with the Lims and will most probably be dropped as Sabah DAP Chairman.  Another failure is Ronnie Liu, the controversial Selangor State Exco who seems to be a burden for DAP Selangor carries.  Also out of the list is Prof Ramasamy, the person who last year had a public spat with strongman Karpal Singh.

The DAP quickly claimed that the CEC, the Lims in particular, had a strong backing from the delegates.  However, the numbers show that Lim Sr only received 62.4 percent of total votes, while Lim Jr received 1,576 votes out of 2,576, or only 61.2 percent of total votes.  In short, 1,000 delegates did not vote for Lim Guan Eng.  This layman does not see this as a strong backing.

All seven Malay candidates in DAP lost badly.  I know the press quoted eight but I do not consider Zairil Khir Johari bin Abdullah a Malay. The late Khir Johari was not his biological father.  Anyway, branding himself a Malay and chosen as Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary, and like his boss, did not get him any strong support.  Zairil, or whatever his name was, before Khir Johari married his mother in 1996 when he was seven or eight, only managed to secure 305 votes.

The other Malay DAP candidates scored even worse: Zulkifli Mohd Noor from Penang, who has tried for the past 25 years to get into the CEC,  received 216 votes; Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji from Pahang received 121 votes; Solaiman Op Syed Ibrahim of Perak received 98; Roseli Abd Ghani received 39; Harun Ahmad received only 28.  Only Senator Ariffin SM Omar and Johor DAP Vice-Chairman Ahmad Ton scored higher than Zairil, receiving 748 and 347 votes respectively.

Zulkifli was clearly peeved.

“When we say ‘Malaysian Malaysia,’ we must represent all religions, all races…balance. The message I conveyed did not reached the grassroots. They are still choosing leaders based on race,” he told Bernama.

He said that the election was also not based on ability and experience of the candidates in fighting for the party.

“There is no change. The results is a setback for Malay candidates. Perhaps the top leaders who contested want to take care of their own interests, not the party’s interests.”

This means that the Indian community now only has 1/3 representation compared to what they used to have in the previous CEC, while majority of the DAP delegates gave a strong signal to its Malay members as to who is King in the DAP.

And it certainly isn’t Mr Singh.  And it certainly isn’t a multi-racial party.

UPDATED 16TH DEC 2012 – 1515 HOURS

The DAP has apparently appointed two “Malays” to the CEC to appease or maybe to fulfill their idea of the Malaysian Malaysia concept.  Senator Ariffin SM Omar and Zairil Khir Johari bin Ablululah have been appointed to the CEC – these two are supposed to represent and mirror the composition of the Malays in Malaysia.  Unfortunately, there are more than 50 percent Malays in Malaysia.

Like I mentioned above, Zairil is not a Malay, but a full-blown born Chinese with a Malay name, and therefore cannot be considered as a Malay-representative in the CEC.  Therefore, reality sees only one Malay in the current CEC compared to two in the previous one. He was not born to parents who professed to be Muslims, and I doubt they spoke or lived as Malays when he was born. Therefore, Zairil does not fulfill the requirements of Article 160 of the Federal Constitution to be categorised as a Malay.

As for Zulkifli Mohd Noor, he can keep on trying to get into the CEC another 25 years.

Long live Malaysian Malaysia. *BARF*
